Falling asleep can be hard. In your home or on the go, external noises can make it very hard to fall asleep and stay asleep. A major problem the team behind Kokoon headphones set out to fix. Working together with sleep scientists, the Kokoon team worked not only to design headphones comfortable to fall asleep wearing but also an app to help you sleep even better. However, the process of creating the Kokoon headphones and app took a lot of trial and error.
Testing and research was a huge part of getting the Kokoon headphones ready for their launch on Kickstarter. The development process started from taking apart the problem and seeing how the pieces could be reassembled to fix it. The team saw three major problems with traditional over ear headphones, “If worn for too long they get uncomfortable, get knocked into odd positions and get hot and sweaty”. The team found that moving the electronics from the ears to the hand band allows for a more secure and comfortable experience. To make sure that their headphones were comfortable to everyone, not just the development team, they completed 10,000 hours of “comfort testing”. They even worked to develop an air circulation system to keep ears cool as they sleep. By breaking down the problems to solve, it allowed the creators to completely examine the issue and come up with the best solution.
The Kokoon team has completed their initial Kickstarter campaign and have begun to work on the next iteration of the Kokoon headphones app. They plan to keep improving the functionality of the app and the comfort of the headphones. Although no new crowdfunding campaigns have been announced, Kokoon is available to purchase at various retailers across the world.
