Creator Stories

The creators at Aico Tech want to make controlling your devices simple and efficient using your mobile device’s bluetooth technology. SmartEgg stores all control commands of your home devices. You can combine keys from any controller to create your very own scenes, eliminating the need for multiple awkward steps to just one tap from your smartphone. SmartEgg saves energy by keeping your devices working on schedule: you can set a daily timer to turn on your TV as a morning alarm, or make sure all the devices and lights are off in your home every night.

How SmartEgg successfully positioned its product to generate public awareness

Creators Sydney Shi, Fizz Wu, and Soft Li started a Kickstarter campaign to reach a $100,000 goal in order to gather funds and continue to develop SmartEgg with the latest technology, quality, and simplicity. People were willing to support this universal remote because they saw how easy it would make their household experience. It was connecting all the different home devices that we struggle using everyday—showing us a pain-point we often overlook. SmartEgg was providing people with a chance to enjoy their home in a new way, with ease and full control, which appealed to all people of all ages.

Why this worked?

The creators of SmartEgg wanted to use their investments from their backers in the most effective way for their product. They could have used this money to spend on promotional marketing, in order to receive more backers but this would not have been authentic, and it would have used up a big portion of their backers’ support.  So instead of spending on promotional marketing, they just continued to position their product as the driving force of their campaign, and it worked! The founders were confident that this product would be a great addition to any household, which they focused on to get this Kickstarter in front of people’s eyes. They had a deep understanding of what their customers wanted and needed and explained this to them in the right way. They had a well-rounded understanding about their product and how it would serve people and they used this to their advantage. Using this as a tool for marketing their product in a cost-effective manner. The last update via Kickstarter showed 2,210 backers pledging $110,540 to help bring this project to life! Clearly proving that an idea with clear communication about the pain-points it is solving has a chance to be backed and brought to the public’s attention.

Aico Tech: SmartEgg’s Story

Creators Sydney Shi, Fizz Wu, and Soft Li believe that in the future home remote control devices will be integrated into one, smart and affordable piece! They realized looking around their home how difficult it was to manage all of their devices, and how different each remote was to use; so they wanted to be the ones to make an elegant, simple universal remote: SmartEgg.
