WHAT IS FCBC
FOR CREATORS BY CREATORS

The mission of For Creators, By Creators is to be a community where Creators and entrepreneurs find the resources they need to harness the capital in their local communities and become global market-changers. We provide creators with the tools to build global brands through a series of local seminars in major U.S. hubs by creating forums where creators can meet with business partners, backers, and successful crowdfunding entrepreneurs.

about-2
WHY SHOULD I
ATTEND FCBC

At each FCBC event, we bring together local creators who have run successful crowdfunding campaigns—along with investors, funding platforms, media, etc. They each share their experience about what makes a business successful as an entrepreneur and how you can leverage your resources for success. Most FCBC events are interactive, so you can ask questions to our experts.

If you’re looking to learn what it takes to run a successful crowdfunding campaign, how to take your brand to become a viable business locally and globally, or looking for some inspiration, visit our next FCBC event.

Collaboration with companies of similar values has been an essential component to our success. Building cooperative relationships is critical to establishing a strong foundation for any company.

Hanson Grant first came up with the idea of a stick-on whiteboard as a sophomore at Babson College, in order to write down business ideas easily. After raising $10,000 in his first crowdfunding campaign, Think Board has grown into a fast-growing business that most recently raised $200,000 in September 2018 for their latest crowdfunded product (in collaboration with Rocketbook), the Think Board X.

Following FCBC and working with We The People, Hanson built a global company in less than 6 months–reaching international markets as far as Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Early on, Hanson partnered with another successful crowdfunded company and We The People partner, Rocketbook. Highlighting the importance of collaboration within the crowdfunding community, Hanson said. “Rocketbook really helped us understand the post-Kickstarter process and meet the right people.” In return, Think Board helped Rocketbook better navigate Amazon and e-commerce.

Another key lesson he learned was that scaling fast may not be the best plan for startups. “Being patient with the whole process–even though every expert and investor said speed is our friend–allowed us to understand the market. If we had immediately poured all our resources into advertising to students, who we thought was our primary market, we probably would have failed.”

With just two full-time employees, Think Board is the epitome of a 21st-century business. It outsources everything from marketing to accounting and is completely self-sufficient–a real lean, mean, profit-generating machine.

Aside from giving us a storefront to sell our products, we were also advised on everything from packing, distribution, and marketing to help us reach as many consumers as possible.

Rocketbook co-founder Joe Lemay conceived the idea for a reusable notebook in late 2013 when he forgot to bring the proper notebook for an important sales meeting (whoops). Fast forward a year and a half and together with Jake Epstein, Joe creates Rocketbook’s first product, the Rocketbook Wave. After raising almost $2 million in crowdfunding for its first ever campaign, Rocketbook has expanded to 3 product lines, raising over $6 million through its crowdfunding campaigns and selling over 1 million units worldwide.

Through working with We The People, Rocketbook expanded its presence to launch in the Asian marketplace: in WTP’s Singapore stores alone, Rocketbook sold almost 500 units during the 2018 holiday season. Aside from being a retail partner, WTP has helped Rocketbook navigate international logistics and marketing.

Ivan McGowan, Rocketbook’s Director of International Sales says, “We have been impressed with the support that We The People has provided us as we grow our brand across Asia. Aside from giving us a storefront to sell our products, [We The People has] also advised us on everything from packing, distribution, and marketing to help us reach as many consumers as possible.”

Rocketbook continues to be a staple product in WTP stores, and has shown no signs of slowing down. With WTP stores as its launching pad, the company is looking to grow its presence worldwide, from Asia to the Americas.

About FCBC
For Creators By Creators

When we started out as creators, we didn’t know anything: we each just had a product and a dream. FCBC is series of events which was started to answer the questions that we had when we first began: how do I even use crowdfunding, how can I find suppliers, what do I do after I successfully use a product, etc. It brings all of these lessons we and other creators have learned in each region to help the next generation of creators harness the crowd to grow their ideas. By 2020, our goal is to hold an FCBC event in all of the major metro areas in the United States.

As our name suggests, We The People is a collective of creators and supporters whose mission is to help great ideas thrive on the global stage. From “how do I get started” to “how do I sell my company”, we’d like to share our knowledge and work with you to build your brand.
